zhostovo inspired
close to being finished w this, a repro of a previous mini painting
I did for Mrs. McKibbens, inspired by Zhostovo technique -
a Russian form of folk art. I am getting nice and obsessed
with painting resourceful birds.
The phrase "semantic satiation" was coined by Leon Jakobovits James in his doctoral dissertation at McGill University, Montreal, Canada awarded in 1962.

After the word 'wound' (wow'nd, woo'nd) warped in my mouth I searched for the term for when a word is repeated over and over until it becomes strange, foreign. Semantic satiation.

"Reactive inhibition" occurs as a result of repetition, with phrases, words, experiences and actions. "Reactive inhibition" occurs as a result of repetition, with phrases, words, experiences and actions. Good morning. How are you? I love you. Have a nice day.
Over long periods of time, traditions become meaningless habits. Millions of candles get shoved casually into cakes. We obliviously slide rings onto forth fingers in gestures devised centuries before our arrival. Recite cliches wisely, having never received a gift horse, nor lead one to water. But I guess we have to desensitize somewhat, for trajectory's sake, else we might starve to death spending all day playing with flashlights and hula hoops.

Another application has been to reduce speech anxiety by stutterers by creating semantic satiation through repetition, thus reducing the intensity of negative emotions triggered during speech.

I was unable find the term for when something meaningless through repetition becomes meaningful, or the term for when something changes meaning after a formidable experience, like the smile in a photograph of the loyal who later betrays, or the term for when something means little and is meaningful for being so meaningless.

Or the term for matching rhythm with tasks, not simply dancing, because the movement has purpose, but cleaning in rhythm to music, wiping the counter in rhythm, riding over speed bumps in time to Another One Bites the Dust.

Or the term for not worst case or best case, but kind of upper-middle case, like
I have a lump on the bone below my left index finger, my berating finger. I have a backup index finger, but it's not as astute as the left one because it was broken once in a bike fight and is shorter and not as accusatory. I have already imagined being diagnosed with hand cancer, and getting the entire half of my left hand amputated, replacing it with a sexy hook, learning to paint w my right hand, and becoming the feel-good hit of the summer. There was a scene where a football team carried me o'er their heads while the crowd roared but I cut that one, as it was illogical. This is my life.

The origin of things, where they come from and why we do them, would be as good an obsession as any if we had time for such things. In their absence - Good morning. How are you? I love you. Have a nice day.

Also - don't know who Zhostovo is or what his deal is, but I like him! I'm a sucker for subtle shades of color surrounded by hard black lines. There was a movement in video games a few years ago called "cel-shading" that I enjoyed and which tried to capture that same aesthetic... letsee...

zhostovo is the village the painting style originated in.

interesting about the video game technique. that example reminds me of hdr, which is a photoshop technique that ups the contrast to make things more...fantastical i guess? (check it: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=hdr&w=all#page=2) i wonder if they are 'cel-shading' as you say?
i loathe hdr for photos, because it alters them too much, and often messes up a perfectly good shot, and i'm kind of naturalist when it comes to photography (this coming frm a digital camera user). but for video games this effect pretty intense!

Something that small ought to be easy to make in near directly proportional postcards without reproduction loss of quality. Seems just the right size for a jewelry or curio box too.

I think you've stumbled onto the evolution of language dispersion that "Babel" tried to simplify in one fale, allegorical swoop.

Me. I'll rejoice that I'll never have to work with so-and-so, the Redneck in charge at Company X, whom never got tired of Ted Nugent. It was a pretty close call of almost stabbing myself in the eardrums there to make it go away.

phatic! oooo, thank you for the new word.
do you ever find it unfortunate to discover a new word you know you can't use because no one will understand it when you do? is there a term for that?

bike fight: well i should say my bike and i got into a fight w a yellow cadillac, swapped some paint, broke about five bones. the caddy won, but i left it a nice scar!

Love (love, love) - shouldn't this freakin' word have atleast one pronunciation with a long o sound? Couldn't that be the pronunciation used for meaningless (or short-lived) types of love, like, oh I love this song. Or I love you, but I don't love you. It help make things less confusing.

after long periods alone in my basement workshop, when I surface and see people "in person", niceties like "good morning" and even "hello" are bright colored wildflowers to me. People sometimes take things for granted. Get self involved I reckon. Some pleasantries and traditions I'd miss if they went missing. Like the long tradition of your beauty. Talk about repeating yourself.

love can surely be pronounce w a lavish o. but sometimes it's STILL not enough. maybe we should have love in increments, level 2 love and so forth?

oh, at my old job, good mornings made me feel so gross w how plastic they are.
i do notice the absence of thank you and please, tho.
you are definitely a well missed pleasantry, mr. d.

that happened to me with the word "shrimp"

it was very frustrating and i was left feeling the opposite of satiated after going to mexican restaurants

i wish lj just had a "like" button or a button that said, "i read this and i did not feel like i wasted my time," that way i would not feel pushed to think of something to contribute when truly i have nothing

I struggle all, all, all the
time with the abuse and the
devaluation of the nice social
phrases. And then I look like
a prick.

A&M was the worst sort of place,
where it's "tradition" to say
"Howdy!" to everyone. It made
me sick, because no one meant
it.

When cashiers asked my father
things like, "How are you
doing today?", he would always
wreck their social schemas by
telling them how tired, hungry,
cold, or horny he was.

You would have made a fine
academician, probably in the
field of psychology, I think.
Although if you hate normal
people, you might hate the
departmental culture of u-
niversities even more. I
know I did.

That painting does indeed
look like one of the painted
boxes they sell in Pitr. It
is quite pretty.

i tried to look up Pitr, and got back Point in Time Recovery?
