green dresses & greenbelts

I been down so long, blues don't worry me...
Saturday was spent hiking the Greenbelt to Twin Falls. The creek was full from the rain & meandering alongside us as we sang our way down the trails. It's amazing how close this oasis is to my work. That while I'm folding architecturals & downloading spec books, a few miles away the creek plays its percussion, oblivious. I wore my big JackieO sunglasses so I could stare at people without looking like a perv.
Then to Marina's soiree where this goof-ass dude challenged me to a battle-dance which, unfortunately for him, I'd had just enough white wine to accept. He got a little out of control with his moves & fell down in the kitchen, making me the winnar of the competition by default, & immensely grateful it wasn't me dumbstruck & pondering my state on the floor. Because it could very well have been, had I chosen the Roger Rabbit with a 3 quarter turn.
Today we shopped. There was a forlorn & weather-beaten white man with a cardboard sign on every corner, because well damn. Ain't it a beautiful day to be a hobo.
I bought myself a little green dress & a 5-pack of orange underwear. The weekend's when I girl out. Someone told me that when a woman wears orange, she is in the midst of or welcoming a significant change to her life. I say come armageddon, come.
I'm sundazed, browned, sore & satisfied, though if I were really bright I would invent an elixir to quell the libido. I would call it Horny-No-More & I would be dirty rich & buy choppers for all my friends.
So...

Date: 2006-04-24 06:43 pm (UTC)Soul to Soul
Date: 2006-04-24 06:01 am (UTC)On his latest album he does Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home".
On 2002's "Wetlands" album he did Otis Redding's "These Arms Of Mine".
I don't know how you could upload them somewhere, but I know they are good.
Tab goes to Austin on a regular basis, and I double-dog dare anyone living there to go see him and try to remain seated! When he gets the crowd really loosened up with Hank William's "Jambalaya" he will somewhere in there segue into "Iko Iko" (The Dixie Cups - 1965) and implore the crowd in the call and response. It can get pretty cathartic, yes, like a Pentacostal revival, only with drinks served.
I have seen him play in several places all over Colorado over about five or six years. He is just one amazing performer and really nice guy.

Re: Soul to Soul
Date: 2006-04-25 03:27 am (UTC)Hence, I had to go re-listen to Otis Redding's "These Arms Of Mine" after I heard Tab doing it. I had been listening to Tab so much before he even attempted it that it just sounded like Tab. And if you liked his music beforehand you just listen to your jawbones click as their dropping when he attempts these classics.
He's from Louisianna. Makes his home in Houma. He started VOW, Voice of the Wetlands, trying to raise awareness about the gradual diappearance of the swamps and bayous. He used to have a restaurant down there called Tab Benoit's Lagnaippe Cafe. I think he's since closed it up. Ha ha, I even saw him at one gig Barkley's West, a litle bar in a ski town called Frisco, Colorado one summer in the back of the bar with a chef's hat on. He was cooking before hitting the stage! I just did't get how laid back he was, unless he was altitude sick, or weary from the road. Do all people from Louisianna look like a kitten in need of a nap?
