tumbling roots

apostles
this place is only about 1.5 hours out, in a town called beorne.
but first a drive through new braunfels, "unicorn country" says the water tower.
i don't know why i didn't come here sooner.

woven
the bald cypress is my favorite tree

matriarch
it reminds me of home

white noise
but also because its foliage is soft and fans out like feathers

clinging tightly
and its roots tumble and coil like tentacles

tangle
embraced tightly, clinging in fists to the shore

and her young
they make babies and grandchildren at the water's edge

clover constellation

blown over

limestone shore

be still you

big sip

sprawl

gesturing

arrow

three graces

commotion

my stone skipper
it was a good day.

Oh, cool-- beautiful pictures! Beorne isn't that far from us! Aww, we could have met you there and romped around together! If you plan on going again, let us know (especially since the weather will be getting nice and cooler).

Your boy is growing up into one handsome young gentleman :)

well Monkey Puzzles are at least Gondwanan.... Maybe we should have separate favourite tree categories for southern and northern hemisphere species.
Hm. I'll have to think of mine now...

I have one tree in my backyard, it's a large bald cypress. About 7 years ago it got struck by lightning, but it survived. Now it has some kind of bug (wood boring), and it's time for a visit from the tree doctor. It doesn't have the glorious root structure of those you photographed, but the softness of the fronds in the summer makes me very happy.

Date: 2009-09-21 04:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] flightviolation.livejournal.com
o wow, i hope the tree doctor can save it. they are usually pretty resilient.
some of the cypress in this place didn't have many roots showing. they were further from the shore. i think the low water levels along the riverbed expose more. i can marvel at them for hours.

Don't you kind of need to paint a family of cypress trees, with their faces coming out of the trunks, and grandchildren all potential underfoot? Because it seems to me like you do.
