I think the whole point was not to glamorize it, it was to ridicule the priggishness of straight society. Sort of John Waters for the masses.
The hippieness of Maude was all about challenging the stereotype of the day also - there was no such thing as a hippie old lady back then, it was like an outrageous character.
Lolita and Clockwork were both amazing, and Kubrick was always way ahead, but still Clockwork is projected into a future fantasy, and Lolita is more conventional even though it deals with taboos.
